A-1D Skyraider
The prototype of the Douglas Skyraider first flew
in March 1945. Designed as a carrier based attack aircraft for
the US Navy the Skyraider was able to carry a wide variety of
weapons on its numerous hardpoints. The Skyraider entered the
inventory to late to see service in World War II but saw extensive
combat in the Korean and Vietnam Wars where it heavy load hauling
capability and long loiter time gave it an advantage of the
jet aircraft of the time.
BuNo 126965 (N965AD) is an AD-4 that was originally flown by
the French Air Force. In 2004 the aircraft was purchased by
the Heritage Flight Museum in Washington State from a private
owner in Belgium. |
