The Humboldt River meanders alongside the abandoned US 40 roadbed through Carlin Canyon in Central Nevada. Located between Elko and Carlin the route following the river was the path used by Indians, early pioneers and explorers, the California Immigrant Trail, Donner Party, Transcontinental Railroad, Victory Highway and US 40.
