Glacier Girl, a P-38 Lightning, takes to the skies over Stead Field in Nevada to participate in the Air Force Heritage Flight during the 2008 Reno Air Races. In July of 1942 the aircraft was forced to make an emergency landing in Greenland while en-route to the British Isles. Five other p-38's and 2 B-17 bombers where eventually buried beneath 270 feet of ice. In 1992 Glacier Girl was brought to the surface and transported to Middlesboro, Kentucky, for restoration to flying condition. On October 26, 2002 Steve Hinton took Glacier Girl into the air for the first time in over 60 years.
