Telegraph City on an old alignment of California Hwy 4 in Calaveras County between Farmington and Copperopolis. Originally called Grasshopper the town's name was changed to Telegraph City after the construction of a telegraph line from Stockton to Sonora was routed through the city. The town had a post office that operated from 1862 to 1894 but probably not much has happened there since. Today all that remains of Telegraph City are a few building foundations, a still working windmill, a single palm tree, and many miles of rock walls.
