Historic US 40 passes over the Donner Summit at McGlashan Point on its way to Donner Lake and Truckee. The concrete arch bridge was completed in 1925 and served as the major east-west transcontinental route between San Francisco, California, and Atlantic City New Jersey until it was replaced by Interstate 80 in the mid 1960's. Today the road is a scenic bypass to the busy interstate and an access road to nearby ski resorts.
