A paved section of the original Lincoln Highway is surrounded by the growing grasses at Mossdale Crossing near Lathrop, California. The Lincoln Highway passed under the train trestle before crossing westward over the San Jauquin River. Both the Lincoln Highway and the railroad bridge at Mossdale Crossing played a crucial role in transcontinental travel in their own eras. The railroad crossing was the last milestone that completed the Transcontinental Railroad and the Lincoln Highway, which was founded in 1912, is recognized as the first auto road to span the continent.
