Steve Hinton taxies a Lockheed P-38 Lightning known as Glacier Girl along the ramp at Stead Field in Nevada. In July of 1942 the aircraft was forced to make an emergency landing in Greenland while en-route to the British Isles. Five other p-38's and 2 B-17 bombers where eventually buried beneath 270 feet of ice. In 1992 Glacier Girl was brought to the surface and transported to Middlesboro, Kentucky, for restoration to flying condition. On October 26, 2002 Steve Hinton took Glacier Girl into the air for the first time in over 60 years. Photographed 09/07
